The July 19 edition of Airline Business Report features a story about the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) being "close to signing" a contract with NEXTOR "to gauge the real-world implications of auctioning landing rights at LaGuardia and other airports." According to the report, "the FAA wants [NEXTOR] to develop a credible auctioning plan by next March in order to lay the groundwork for a radical shift in the way airlines do business nationwide." NEXTOR is the National Center of Excellence for Aviation Operations Research co-directed by Professor Michael Ball (Robert H. Smith School of Business/ISR). In a sidebar story, the same publication looks at the potential impacts of slot auctions at Laguardia. Dr. Ball is quoted in both stories. | Possible NEXTOR contract story | LaGuardia slot auctions story |
