Current ISR visiting researchers
ISR is a short-term home for practicing engineers from academia, government and industry. These professionals come from across the globe to work on research projects with our faculty and students. Currently, the following people are visiting researchers at ISR.
|
Dr. Hyeong Soo Chang, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Sogang University in Seoul, Korea, began his visit at ISR in March 2009. He expects to be here until February 2010 conducting research with Steve Marcus and Michael Fu on Markov decision processes and stochastic optimization. Dr. David Elliott, Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Systems at Washington University, is continuing his visit at the ISR. He is conducting research on bilinear systems and interacting with ISR students. Mr. Nader Ghasemi, Graduate Student in Electrical Engineering at the University of Melbourne, expects to arrive at the ISR in October 2009 for a six-month visit with Dr. John Baras. He will be conducting research in the area of distributed estimation of Markov dynamical systems, the design of power-efficient binary-quantizers for HMM state, and/or parameter estimation using constrained and unconstrained Markov decision process application using consensus strategies. Dr. Robert Hoffman, Engineer at Metron Scientific Consulting, Inc., is continuing his ISR visiting appointment. He is conducting research on NEXTOR's Collaborative Decision-Making (CDM) project with Dr. Michael Ball. He will visit campus as his schedule permits. Major Taewoo Kang, from the Korea Air Force, began his ISR visit on August 3, 2009 and expects to be here through February 2010. He is working with Dr. Richard La on dynamic spectrum allocation. In particular, his work is focusing on designing an auction mechanism that will allocate frequency bands to multiple service providers operating in different markets and determining the existence of an incentive for the sellers to be truthful about their private information. Dr. Navin Kashyap, Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Queen’s University, began his visit with the ISR and ECE on August 17, 2009. He expects to be here through January 2010. Dr. Kashyap is conducting research with Dr. Alexander Barg on various problems in coding theory. |
Dr. Dong Yon Kim, Professor of Electronic Engineering at Hankyong National University, began his one-year visit at the ISR on February 1, 2009. He is conducting research with Dr. Richard La on cross-layer optimization scheme in communication network systems. Dr. Won Jae Lee, Associate Professor in the Department of Nano Engineering at DongEui University, began his one-year visit at the ISR on February 1, 2009. He is working with Dr. Gary Rubloff on Maryland’s ongoing research in energy storage nanodevices. Mr. Nikolaos Pappas, a Ph.D. student in computer science at the University of Crete, is at ISR this fall conducting research with Tony Ephremides on intelligent and robust control for robotic systems. Dr. Vahid Ramezani, Senior Research Scientist in the Signal Processing Group of Intelligent Automation, Inc., is continuing his part-time visiting appointment. He is collaborating with Dr. Michael Fu on production/inventory control and supply chain management. He will visit campus as his schedule permits. Mr. Li Sheng is a Ph.D. student in the School of Communication and Control Engineering at Kiangnan University in China. He will conclude his ISR visit in September 2009. He has been conducting research with Eyad Abed and Munther Hasouneh on stability theory, chaos synchronization, and neural networks. Mr. Ryuichi Teramoto, Researcher at the Corporate Manufacturing Engineering Center in the Toshiba Corporation in Yokohama, Japan, is conducting research with Dr. Abhijit Dasgupta (ME) on accelerated stress testing of electronics. He is a visiting scientist under Toshiba’s membership in ISR’s Strategic Partners Program. |
