Prof. Gary Friedman has received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1989. From 1989 until 2001 he has been a faculty member at the University of Illinois in Chicago initially affiliated with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and later with the Bioengineering Department as well. In 2001 he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University and since 2005 he has also been a faculty at the Department of Surgery. His research interests span the area of applied magnetism and, in particular, modeling of hysteresis, magnetic drug delivery, magnetic fluids and magnetic micro-manipulation, nuclear magnetic resonance for micro-imaging and spectroscopy. His recent interests also include the use of atmospheric pressure room-temperature plasma discharges in medicine.
