Abstract
Autonomous micro air vehicles (MAVs) have become increasingly capable as advancements in technology have made components lightweight, accurate, and relatively inexpensive. Outdoor vehicles have the advantage of utilizing GPS for positioning, whereas indoor vehicles must understand their environment through inertial sensors and computer vision techniques. We describe the University of Maryland's Autonomous Micro Air Vehicle (AMAV) Team's indoor autonomous drone that competed in and won the 7th Annual MAV Student Challenge organized by the Vertical Flight Society. The vehicle configuration, distributed ground system, flight control and autonomy framework, and current flight capabilities are discussed, along with ongoing work.
About the Robotics Student Seminars
The Robotics Student Seminars at the University of Maryland College Park are a student-run series of talks given by current robotics students.
The purpose of these talks is to:
- Encourage interaction between Robotics students from different subfields;
- Provide an opportunity for Robotics students to be aware of and possibly get involved in the research their peers are conducting;
- Provide an opportunity for Robotics students to receive feedback on their current research;
- Provide speaking opportunities for Robotics students.
