Maryland Robotics Center Seminar

Agricultural Robotics:  Current State of the Market and Opportunities

Jeff Chandler

Founder, CEO

Easton Robotics, LLC

Abstract

Agricultural robotics is a nascent industry with huge upside but few commercially available products today.  While the potential US market is very large, perhaps the largest in the world, the technology is still being developed and therefore the opportunities to develop and deploy products are still available if good products can be brought to market quickly.  Opportunities in products targeting big farms, small farms, and everything in between exist.  Services in support of the products, as well as sale of products are areas for exploration.

However, the technology is complicated, and for most farmers, out of reach economically and in the required skills.  Much like Tesla versus General Motors, a new company with fresh ideas and no constraints can move the market.  Come learn about the current state of the market and what Easton Robotics is trying to do to establish an early lead in this new industry.

About the Robotics Student Seminars

The Robotics Student Seminars at the University of Maryland College Park are a student-run series of talks given by current robotics students.

The purpose of these talks is to:

  • Encourage interaction between Robotics students from different subfields;
  • Provide an opportunity for Robotics students to be aware of and possibly get involved in the research their peers are conducting;
  • Provide an opportunity for Robotics students to receive feedback on their current research;
  • Provide speaking opportunities for Robotics students.
