Title: From 5G to 6G: Research, Engineering, and Applications for the Future of Connectivity

RSVP: go.umd.edu/clancy

Summary: 4G wireless revolutionized our society by enabling untethered communications at scale, giving rise to the smartphone and social-mobile Internet. 5G anticipates ushering in similar technology advances for the Internet of Things, fueling autonomy at scale for hyperconnected infrastructure. What opportunity does 6G represent? What are the driving use cases, and how will they change society yet again? What key performance indicators will 6G target, what applications does that unlock, and which laws of physics needs to be broken to make that happen? This talk explores the practical implications of the next order of magnitude jump in throughput, latency, and density, looks at how to get there, and what that future might actually look like.
