The Whiting-Turner Business and Entrepreneurial Lecture Series in partnership with Women In Engineering presents The Opportune Trajectory: an approach in navigating the worlds of spaceflight and entrepreneurship

Abstract

This conversation will discuss how through recognizing risks and opportunities, it is possible to find a place in the world where you can work with great people on fascinating projects. Lisa will briefly introduce her company, Space Exploration Engineering, LLC, and her career journey to-date as a space navigation and mission operations specialist, a small business co-owner, and a chief operating officer. She will focus on how the themes of risk, opportunity, and teamwork have navigated her on the road to entrepreneurship.

Speaker Bio

Lisa Policastri is the Owner and Chief Operating Officer, Space Exploration Engineering (SEE) and has 25 years of experience as an aerospace engineer, performing spacecraft mission planning, design, analysis, operations, and requirements definition. Lisa specializes in orbit determination and has worked on many missions including Beresheet, ICON, SkySats, LADEE, IBEX, and UHF Follow-On/FLEETSAT. Her career highlights include working at the United States Department of Defense, a commercial aerospace software company, a startup aerospace consulting and contracting firm, a subcontractor to commercial space companies and government agencies, and in aerospace academia. Additionally, Lisa is responsible for business operations and project management activities at SEE. Lisa earned her Master of Science in Management, with a focus in Project Management, from University of Maryland University College and her Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering with a focus in Astronautics from the University of Maryland College Park.
