Computer Science Colloquium: A (re)Introduction to the UMD's Division of IT

Jeffrey K. Hollingsworth
Vice President & Chief Information Officer
Professor of Computer Science
University of Maryland

Abstract
The Division of IT at the university of Maryland runs wired & wireless networks, a phone system, administrative computing systems, high performance computing clusters, a computer sales & repair store, and a high speed regional research network. The division also has a nearly 50 person software engineering team that that builds and maintains systems including SIS and PHR. In addition, the division has responsibility for cyber security of all computers and networked devices on campus. In this talk, I will briefly review the many things DIT does. In addition, I will describe several new initiatives to replace administrative computing systems and provide new services for researchers. Finally, I will outline opportunities for CS researchers to engage with DIT on projects of mutual interest.
