Engineering Evolution

Dr. James Cantor
Chief Technology Officer, Leidos 

Abstract: The role of the engineer is evolving due to a number of driving factors—technical, economic, political, operational and security—and will continue to do so.  Giving this ever changing landscape, in this session we will discuss the current and anticipated future needs of industry and how engineering students can best prepare and differentiate themselves to become future leaders.  

Bio:  Dr. James Cantor is the Chief Technology Officer at Leidos where he oversees the Office of Technology that leads the engineering and research and development to unlock scientific discoveries and technology improvements supporting a broad area of markets. He has more than 35 years of experience in program development, system engineering, statistical methods, sensors, signal processing, estimation and detection methodology, simulation system development, and simulation and information technology development, primarily for national security applications. Prior to Leidos, Dr. Cantor held both senior technical and management positions at SAIC.  Notable outside activities include serving as Leidos Executive for the University of Maryland, College Park. He currently serves on the UMD’s A. James Clark School of Engineering Board of Visitors, the UMD’s Advisory Board for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Dr. Cantor also served on the American Heart Association’s D.C. Heart Walk’s Executive Leadership Team.
