Notes From Class
Week 1 : August 31, September 3, 1998
-
If you do not have a Glue computer account, please get one.
See the FAQ's for step-by-step instructions.
-
I would like to assemble a list of e-mail addresses for the
class members, so please send me an e-mail
indicating that you are enrolled in ENSE 621.
From a glue account, e-mail can be sent by simply typing
mail austin@isr.umd.edu
-
I want to build a web page of class participants along the
lines of that discussed in class. Please see
Becky Copeland,
Rm. 2445, A.V. Williams Building,
Phone : (301) - 405- 6602
E-mail : rebeccac@isr.umd.edu
so that she can take your picture with the digital camera.
Leave her your name, professional interests, e-mail address,
and web address so that we can put this info on the class page.
Week 2 : September 10, 1998
-
I have decided to distribute the class notes in two parts.
Part 1 is obout 300 pages long, and will be available from
the engineering copy center as of 9am on Wednesday morning.
The cost will be $20.
My plan is to release Part 2 sometime in early-mid October.
Week 3 : September 17, 1998
-
In class we covered Chapter 2 of the orange book.
I also provided an outline of the first
homework assignment (details given below).
Week 4 : September 24, 1998
-
Homework 1 is available.
You can work on the homework in pairs if you wish ... just make sure
both names are on the assignment when it's handed in.
For problem 2, I suggest that you work backwards, first considering
classes of problems that are similar to the traffic light problem,
and the common features they share. This strategy should help you
identify a hierarchy that makes sense, and is naturally reusable.
-
Becky tells me that the pictures she took last week are all dark (okay,
so there's something wrong with the camera).
She cannot come to class this upcoming thursday,
but may be able to the following week.
In the meantime, if you are at school,
please stop by her office and get a mug shot taken.
Week 5 : October 1, 1998
-
Please check the "meet the class" web page to make sure your
links work. If you have a home page up and running,
but are not connected, please send the web address of
your home page to Becky (rebeccac@isr.umd.edu).
-
The grader for the course is:
Shih-Chi Chiang
shihchic@isr.umd.edu
If you send me e-mail about your homework on the web, please
be sure to send Shih-Chi an e-mail copy.
