Present-Day Requirements Management Tools

Present-day requirements management tools (e.g., SLATE, DOORS) claim to be process independent. But!!!

  • They provide the best support for top-down development where the focus is on requirements representation, requirements traceability, and allocation of requirements to system abstraction blocks.

  • Computational support for the bottom-up synthesis of systems from components is poor. This problem is more difficult.

Figure 1. Requirements Engineering WBS and Industry Toolset Weakensses. (For details, see Ramesh and Jarke, 2001)

A minimal implementation would check groups of requirements for logical consistency and compatibility.
