Abstract
In this talk, I will present ongoing researches on micro surgical robots and instruments at Center for Medical Robotics at KIST (Korea Institute of Science and Technology). Motivations, system integration efforts and evaluation results of micro surgical robots and instruments (wrists, catheters, and needles ) developed for following applications will be presented
- Micro Surgical Robot Endonasal Skull Base Surgery
- New wrist mechanisms for micro laparoscopic instruments
- Endoscopic Catheter Robot for epidural spine interventions
- Steerable needle with variable stiffness for extended manipulability

Biography
Chunwoo Kim is a Senior Researcher at Center for Medical Robotics at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). He obtained B.S (2008) in mechanical aerospace engineering from Seoul National University, M.S (2010) and Ph.D. (2014) in mechanical engineering from Johns Hopkins University where he worked in Urology Robotics Lab developing medical image guided robots for urological applications. He was a postdoc researcher at Pediatric Cardiac Bioengineering lab at Boston Children's Hospital prior to joining KIST in 2015. His current research interests are development instruments and tools for micro surgical robots and image guided navigation of the medical robots for image guided interventions.
