ECE Telecommunications Program Presents 2018-2019 Graduate Student Awards
On Monday, February 25th, a select group of graduate students in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department’s Master’s in Telecommunications program (ENTS), as well as one of the ENTS instructors, received various awards during ENTS Career Day for outstanding academic performance and service to the program.
2018-2019 Recipients:
Distinguished Student Award
The award bestows the prestigious recognition of the highest academic accomplishment of his or her current class. The recipients this year were:

Academic Scholarship
This Scholarship is a departmental award recognizing outstanding academic performance. The Master’s in Telecommunications Academic Scholarship seeks to highlight student academic excellence through financial award and prestigious recognition. The recipients this year were:

Student Service Award
The ENTS Student Service Award is given based on service to the Program, Department, College, or University. Through his or her initiatives, esprit-de-corps, and leadership - all in all, going above and beyond the status quo - the ideal awardee will have made a clear, positive impact on the Program's community. The recipient this year was:

Directors' Choice for Scholarly Excellence Award
This award recognizes outstanding academic performance in the Master’s in Telecommunications Program. The recipient this year was:

Instructor Award
The ENTS Instructor Teaching Award is given based on consistent and exceptionally high-quality teaching. Through his or her efforts, expert knowledge, and caring for students, altogether going above and beyond the Program’s standards of excellence, the ideal awardee will have made a patently positive contribution to teaching and learning. The recipient this year was:

The ENTS Career Day included an ENTS Alumni panel, where students were able to ask questions and seek advice from UMD ENTS alumni.
“We are grateful to Rekha Zacharia from Amazon, Gautham Bharadwaj from Hughes Networks Systems, Sakina Ali from Global Wireless Solutions, and Vishnu Chandrasenan from Cisco who attended Career Day to provide guidance and advice to our students,” says Alejandra Mercado, Associate Director of the ENTS Program.
Following the awards ceremony, Ms. Jennifer Peters, Juniper Networks, gave a Juniper Networks Career Advice Seminar about successful resume writing and interviewing skill development.
The event included lunch, and the opportunity to talk to the alumni and to Ms. Peters.
