NASA announces Canadian robot, not Ranger, to be used to repair Hubble
Updating the Hubble Space Telescope repair story, NASA has announced its intent to use a Canadian robot, Dextre, sometime in 2007 or 2008, rather than a manned mission. ISR-affiliated Associate Professor Dave Akin (AE/ISR) and his Space Systems Laboratory's (SSL) Ranger robot were in the running at one point; now the SSL is helping evaluate Dextre by running underwater simulations for NASA Goddard, working out the procedures Dextre will use to replace Hubble's instruments. | Story in The Baltimore Sun | Story in The New York Times |—August 2004
