Twelve REU students welcomed
ISR welcomes 12 students to our summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. This program brings together talented undergraduates from across the country to participate in focused, 10-12 week summer research experiences with individual ISR faculty members. It is funded by the National Science Foundation.
About the REU students
Garry R. Brock, Jr. has completed his second year at Elizabethtown College, where he is majoring in Engineering/Physics. He will be working with Dr. S. K. Gupta on bio-inspired mechanics.
Robert Courtney has completed his second year at St. Lawrence University, where he is a Physics/Mathematics major. He will be working with Dr. Eyad H. Abed (ECE) on Dynamics of Particle Accelerators.
Hoda Eydgahi has completed her third year at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she is a Biomedical Engineering/Electrical Engineering major. She will be working with Dr. Pamela Abshire on Label-free Detection of DNA.
Kristen M. Gaska has completed her second year at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where she is an Industrial and Systems Engineering major. Kirsten D. Gheen attended Radford University for her 1st and 2nd years of college and transferred to Virginia Tech last fall, where she is also an Industrial and Systems Engineering major. They have been teamed up to work with Dr. Jeffrey Herrmann (ME/ISR) on planning mass dispensing and vaccination clinics.
Sahand Karimi has just completed his second year at Montgomery College, where he was a Civil engineering major. He will be transferring to UMCP in the fall. This summer, he will be working with Dr. David Lovell (CEE/ISR) on National Aviation System Congestion Management.
Joshua Lioi has completed his third year at Clemson University, where he is a Mathematics and Physics major. He will be working with Dr. P. S. Krishnaprasad on Navigation and Control.
MaryTheresa Monahan-Pendergast has completed her second year at Providence College, where she is engineering major. She will be working with Dr. Michel Cukier (ME) on identifying attack evolution characteristics to predict future attacks.
Walter Miranda has completed his third year at the University of Miami, where he is pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Applied Physics. Timothy Oberc has completed his 3rd year at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he is a Mechanical Engineering major. They will team up and work with Dr. S.K. Gupta (ME/ISR) on the assessment of virtual reality as a training tool.
Joseph Morrow has completed his first year at North Carolina State University, where he is an Aerospace Engineering major. He will be working with Dr. David Akin (AE) on one of his ongoing robotics/space systems projects.
Jeffrey Schleigh has completed his third year at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he is a Mechanical Engineering major. He will be working with Dr. Guangming Zhang (ME/ISR) on the design of a security system using SolidWorks and LabVIEW.
