The Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA) has announced a partnership with the University of Maryland (UMD) to bring TechBUZZ Fall 2018 to The Hotel at the University of Maryland on Thursday, September 20, 2018. TechBUZZ Fall 2018 will bring the business, entrepreneurial, industry, and investor communities of MAVA together with UMD’s faculty expertise, ground-breaking research initiatives, and innovation culture to provide a unique experience for participating attendees.
MAVA’s TechBUZZ program provides a trusted, nationally recognized platform for showcasing private, technology-based companies across sector and stage of development and for bringing forward the latest trends and thought leadership important to the further advancement of rapidly-growing innovative companies. In the 21st edition of the TechBUZZ program to-date, TechBUZZ Fall 2018 will spotlight up to 20 next-generation tech and tech-enabled commercial companies from across the country in front of an estimated business audience of more than 350 attendees. Past presenting companies have represented a diverse range of industry sectors including mobility, data/analytics, cloud, health IT, fintech, software/SaaS, energy, hospitality, cyber/security, and more.
“The TechBUZZ program is an ideal complement to the University of Maryland’s emphasis on a culture of innovation and creativity in which students and faculty are encouraged to envision, design, and commercialize novel technologies that enhance economic development for the state and nation,” said Darryll J. Pines, Dean and Farvardin Professor of UMD’s A. James Clark School of Engineering.
“On behalf of MAVA and its members, we are pleased to partner with the University of Maryland for TechBUZZ Fall 2018, as we believe the University’s renowned faculty expertise, leading research, and entrepreneurial culture provide invaluable benefits to companies and investors alike who are focused on building market-leading, commercial enterprises,” said Julia Spicer, Executive Director of MAVA.
Presenting companies will include 6-8 Momentum companies (>$2M in annual recurring revenue, up to $10M in financing) and 10 Early Market Entrants (commercially-viable, with customer traction or sufficient customer validation), each selected by an independent Review & Selection Committee led by active institutional investors. Co-chairs for the Fall Edition include investors from New Enterprise Associates, Updata Partners, and Core Capital Partners. To-date, TechBUZZ presenting companies have collectively secured more than $785M+ in reported financing post-presentation, with more financing having been secured under undisclosed terms. Past presenting companies have included some of today’s successful growing companies from a variety of sectors like cyber, data, hospitality, nobility, and others – including Airside Mobile, BlueCart, Dark Cubed, Framebridge, RedOwl, Syncurity, Triblio, and ThreatQuotient.
A Program Designed for Innovators, Companies, Industry, and Top Private Investors
By consistently presenting promising, fundable, and market-ready businesses, TechBUZZ provides a uniquely independent platform and one of the most recognized of its kind in the country, attracting up-and-coming technology-based companies along with investors and collaborators who follow the companies that have earned one of the coveted spots on the program. In addition to hitting the radars of potential investors, selected companies benefit from increased visibility and industry interest which helps to secure new customers, hire talent, and garner important market mind-share.
“The University of Maryland is teeming with innovation, and we are thrilled to channel this strength in partnership with MAVA,” said Julie Lenzer, Associate Vice President of Innovation and Economic Development at UMD and Co-Director of UM Ventures. “Hosting events like TechBUZZ in our Discovery District is an incredible opportunity to connect investors with innovation.”
