Abstract

An analyzer system that analyzes a plurality of co-evolving time sequences to, for example, perform correlation or outlier detection on the time sequences. The plurality of co-evolving time sequences comprise a delayed time sequence and one or more known time sequences. A goal is to predict the delayed value given the available information. The plurality of time sequences have a present value and (N-1) past values, where N is the number of samples (time-ticks) of each time sequence. The analyzer system receives the plurality of co-evolving time sequences and determines a window size ("w").

An optical fiber is tapered, preferably adiabatically, and has a material coated on it for chemical bonding with fluorophores. When the fluorophores couple with the material, evanescent radiation generated fibers causes the fluorophores to fluoresce, and the fluorescence is coupled back into the fiber.

A window and level control tool that operates in real time and can quickly determine initial values for window and level settings such that a displayed image is always presented in a readable format is disclosed. The invention transforms input image data into an image histogram. This histogram is then segmented into a small number of parts corresponding to structures of interest. Segmentation of the histogram is done by a novel Viterbi optimal runlength-constrained approximation nonlinear filter. Window and level settings are calculated to correspond to this optimal segmentation.

Abstract

A method and system for optimizing system capacity and allocation in a CDMA cellular communication system obtains a current call volume and associated call characteristics for each of a plurality of cell sites in the system, and estimates effective boundaries for each of the plurality of cell sites to minimize the weighted sum of powers received at selected base stations. Selection of base stations can include highly loaded sites and adjoining cell sites. System parameters are then controlled to effect the estimated cell site boundaries.

Abstract

With the addition of high-speed data traffic to traditional CDMA cellular networks, there is a need to efficiently utilize system capacity so that the quality of service of existing voice and low-speed data users is maintained while new high-speed data users are added to the network. Methods and systems are presented that control allocation of power to users, quality of service requirements, and/or user activity levels to enhance capacity utilization.

Abstract

A method for detecting a watermark signal in digital image data. The detecting method includes the steps of: computing a log-polar Fourier transform of the image data to obtain a log-polar Fourier spectrum; projecting the log-polar Fourier spectrum down to a lower dimensional space to obtain an extracted signal; comparing the extracted signal to a target watermark signal; and declaring the presence or absence of the target watermark signal in the image data based on the comparison.

A digital watermarking process whereby an invisible watermark inserted into a host image is utilized to determine whether or not the image has been altered and, if so, where in the image such alteration occurred.

Abstract

In a mobile cellular communications system power control and space-time diversity are applied in combination to the uplink and downlink. In the uplink, mobile powers and equalization/diversity combining vectors at base stations are, calculated jointly, with the result that the mobile transmitted power is minimized, while the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) at each link is maintained above a threshold. In the downlink, a multitap transmit diversity strategy adjusts the transmit weight vectors with the result that the SNR at each mobile is set to a specified value.

Abstract

A data hiding system and method for providing a method of embedding multiple layers of hidden data into multimedia data. First, a media unit of the multimedia data is evaluated to determine an appropriate embedding procedure. Next during a first embedding pass, a ruling layer of primary hidden data is embedded into the media unit. In another embedding pass, a governing layer of secondary hidden data is embedded on top of the ruling layer. The secondary hidden data provides control information for controlling the primary hidden data and the host data.
