Abstract

A method and apparatus of hiding identification data in visual media. When image or video data is received, frequency masking is performed to divide the image or video data into blocks of smooth regions and blocks of non-smooth regions and to obtain preliminary just-noticeable-difference. Edge detection is performed to divide the non-smooth region of the image or video data into texture blocks and edge blocks. Then blocks of regions that are substantially proximate to blocks of smooth regions of the image or video data are determined.

Abstract

A routing system and method utilizes a highly-adaptive, loop-free, distributed routing algorithm for dynamic networks, which can be used in networks in which the clocks are not synchronized. The invention is adapted for use when clocks are not synchronized. If a node has no downstream links, a height value for the node is updated in a manner which ensures the reversal of the direction at least one of the incident links, ensuring proper routing to the destination even in the absence of synchronized clocks.

Abstract

A method of forming a fiber probe having an aperture for use in near-field scanning optical microscopy. The method includes a first steps of coating an optical fiber having a tapered tip with a metal layer. Next is a step of milling the tapered tip and metal layer such that an aperture is formed through the metal layer at the tapered tip. The milling step includes focused ion-beam milling the tapered tip and metal layer. The focused ion-beam milling can be done by raster scanning the focused ion-beam in a rectangular pattern at an apex of the tapered tip.

Abstract

A routing system and method utilizes a highly-adaptive, loop-free, distributed routing algorithm for dynamic networks. The basic, underlying method is neither a distance-vector nor a link-state method; the invention employs an algorithm which is one of a family of algorithms which are called "link reversal" algorithms. The protocol's reaction is structured as a sequence of diffusing computations, each computation consisting of a sequence of directed link reversals.

Abstract

A method and apparatus for encoding digital image data wherein a region of interest can be specified either before the encoding process has begun or during the encoding process, such that the priority of the encoder outputs are modified so as to place more emphasis on the region of interest, therefore increasing the speed and/or increasing the fidelity of the reconstructed region of interest. The system, therefore, enables more effective reconstruction of digital images over communication lines.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a system and method for dynamically limiting the power of all users of a CDMA digital data link to maximize throughput and reduce interference among users of the link. In the operation of the data link, the maximum power available from each user of the link is determined along with the minimum power needed from each user to meet its link service requirement, that is, quality of service and frame error rate requirements.

A method and apparatus for encoding digital image data wherein region of interest can be specified either before the encoding process has begun or during the encoding process (127), such that the priority of the encoder outputs are modified so as to place more emphasis on the region of interest, therefore increasing the speed and/or increasing the fidelity of the reconstructed region of interest. The system, therefore, enables more effective reconstruction of digital images over communication lines (128).

Abstract

An integrated highly adaptive method is presented to perform scheduling, routing and access control in a network. The network is made up of a plurality of nodes interconnected by links between at least some of the nodes wherein at least one path interconnects all of the plurality of nodes. The nodes are organized into at least one of a cluster and a clique and the network has a network-wide capacity to send data packets in slots delineating time frames on the network between the nodes on the network defined by the links.

Abstract

A system for optical processing based on light-controlled photon tunneling is provided. The system includes a prism having a metallic film layer formed on an upper surface thereof. The metallic film layer has a microscopic aperture formed therethrough and the microscopic aperture is covered by a layer of non-linear optical film. A first light beam is projected towards aperture and photons from first light beam tunnel through aperture. A second light beam is also projected towards microscopic aperture, with the second light beam having a different wavelength than that of light beam.

Abstract

A method for dynamically allocating network resources while transferring multimedia at variable bit-rates in a network extracts first content features from the multimedia to determine renegotiation points and observation periods. Second content features and traffic features are extracted from the multimedia bit stream during the observation periods. The second content features and the traffic features are combined in a neural network to predict the network resources to be allocated at the renegotiation points.
